Legal
Privacy Policy
This privacy policy is required by law and applies only to thebirdhousehospitality.com — not to the websites of other companies or individuals we link to.
Use of your information
We collect information to keep our platform and our guests safe, and to understand who is staying at our properties. Website and guest data is also collected for statistical purposes — including nationality, date of birth, and gender, used only for statistical analysis. When you visit our website, we may automatically log your IP address to help manage the site and gather broad demographic information. For reservations, we send confirmation emails and will need your email address for that purpose. We may also need to contact previous guests regarding post or lost property.
Reservation data
To confirm a reservation, we typically need:
- Your name
- Telephone or mobile number — in case of an emergency
- Gender and nationality
- Date of birth
- Identification details (passport, driving licence)
- Credit card details, including the security code and expiry date
- Dates of arrival and departure
- Email address
On arrival, we require the same information from your fellow travellers — please make sure they’re aware of this in advance, so check-in goes smoothly.
Credit card data
To guarantee reservations made by any channel (phone, website, or app), we require a full card number, name on the card, card type (Visa, Mastercard, or Maestro), security code, and expiry date. Your card details are used only to secure your booking — The Birdhouse Hospitality will only debit the card if you do not follow our cancellation procedure. See the individual property’s policy for cancellation terms. We are not responsible for data use or reservations made via third-party websites or agents; please refer to their own privacy policy and terms. We respect guest privacy and will not sell or disclose personal information to any other person, business, or third party, except in an emergency or as part of our duty of care.
Keeping your information updated
We welcome guests back on a regular basis. It’s your responsibility to let us know if any personal information we hold about you needs updating. We may contact you at any time if you’ve booked with us and we believe we hold outdated information.
Website security
The internet is not a fully secure medium. We use reasonable security procedures, including firewalls, to help block unauthorised traffic to our website.
Third-party websites
Our website contains links to other websites relevant to our guests. We are not responsible for data use or reservations made via those third-party sites — please refer to their own privacy policy and terms and conditions.
Photography and film
No permission is needed to take photos or film at our properties, though we recommend asking other guests before photographing or filming them directly — a courtesy, not a requirement. On occasion we may commission crews to film or photograph at our properties for promotional purposes. If you’d rather not be filmed or photographed, please feel free to step outside the filming or photography area.
Disclosing your information to third parties
Outside the purposes described in this policy, we will not disclose personal information without your permission, unless legally required to do so — for example, by court order or for fraud prevention.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use this website — which pages get read, where people come from, and whether they go on to book. This involves small files (cookies) stored on your device.
If you consent, we also use Google Signals, which links this data to your Google account activity across devices. This lets us see broad patterns — age range, general interests, the kind of device you’re browsing on — and measure whether our marketing is reaching the right people. Google may also use this data to personalise ads you see elsewhere. We do not receive your name, email, or any way to identify you individually through this feature.
You’ll see a cookie banner on your first visit where you can accept or decline. You can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer. If you decline, we still collect basic, non-personalised visit data to keep the site running properly.
To opt out of Google Analytics across all sites, you can also install Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
Your rights
By submitting information to us, you consent to its use as described in this policy. You may request at any time that we tell you what personal information we hold about you, and you may ask us to add, correct, or delete it — subject to verifying your identity with a utility bill and acceptable photo ID. To make such a request, contact us at [email protected].
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with an EU supervisory authority in case of a dispute — though we’d appreciate the chance to put things right first. Reach us at [email protected].
California-resident rights
If you’re a “consumer” as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (“CCPA”) and The Birdhouse Hospitality is a “business” as defined under CCPA, you have the right, subject to the CCPA, to request:
- Information about the categories of personal data we’ve collected about you
- The specific pieces of personal data we’ve collected about you
- The categories of sources from which that data was collected
- The business or commercial purpose for collecting it
- The categories of third parties with whom we share personal data
- Deletion of any personal data we’ve collected about you
To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We respond to all requests within a reasonable timeframe in accordance with applicable data protection laws; by writing to us, you agree to receive communication from us to verify your identity and gather any other information reasonably required to honour your request. The categories of personal data we collect and disclose are listed above under “Use of your information.” We do not sell your personal data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy at any time. Continued use of our website means you agree to any such changes.
